Stanza for buffer image.

I really, really, really liked Operation Desert Stumble. Sure, the main film wasn’t very car related. But who really gives a shit? Everyone knows that Top Gear was excellent not just because of the cars, but because of the trio’s personalities. How they went together. The banter. The camaraderie. This was just another example of it. I personally found it hilarious and can’t really see where the criticism is coming from. I also find their Tame American hilarious, and I can’t help but notice that most people I’ve seen criticising the character have been, well, American. The whole dead celebrity thing is tired, but whatever.

TL;DR: Stop bitching. I know you lot are all internet commenters, so it comes naturally. But come on. You can’t hype up a show to unreasonable lengths for a year and a half and NOT be disappointed. It’s a damn sight better than Top Gear with the speccy ginger cunt of a Radio 2 host, and also a damn sight better than what TG was in the last 3 or so seasons.

Also, slightly unrelated, but man the show is shot well. Just goes to show what can really be done when you’ve got a proper budget.

I agree.

TGT is a slightly evolved version of TG.

It’s what they wanted to do with TG but couldn’t or weren’t allowed.

Granted there will still be stuff they can’t do because of BBC clauses but in the most part they were able to make this their baby.

Thank you for this. I laughed my ass off last night. Yes it was obviously scripted and they didn’t really do the whole thing over from the start 50 times. But it was still funny. The American is growing on me as is the Eboladrome. The cinematography is still gorgeous and the Vulcan segment gave me goosebumps. A few bits were forced but overall it was great.

Also holy shit a Stanza. I forgot those were a thing that existed.

Man, you really want to justify that Amazon Prime subscription. Jokes aside (kinda) I paid for the subscription and therefore have the right to bitch and Desert Stumble was utter shit in all aspects. I hope The Grand Tour goes somewhere else because I’m really not enjoying it so far.

Laughed twice during Desert Stumble. I am American and hate the American “Stig.” We’ll see how this plays out. My two favorite things from the old show were the Italian Supercar and BL Challenges. So you know where I stand.

I think there is a difference between scripted funnies and comedic acting (or something along those lines). This was more of the latter and I don’t think these guys are very good actors. It was a little bit like going out in the backyard and shooting a movie with my mates (but with the world’s most insane budget). I also wish they would tone down some of the shots a bit. I know that sounds like sacrilege, but I don’t think this show is cinematic - at points it’s shot more like a music video than a film.

I agree! Except for the American. Put a helmet on him and don’t let him say words.
